Hollywood or Bust!
Thursday, May 28th, 2009

hollywood.jpgOkay, so we’re not going to Hollywood but rather Hollywood is coming here . . . to SWAK this Friday, May 29th. They have been busy filming the upcoming feature film “The Killer Inside Me” in Guthrie. This Friday they will be shutting down Oklahoma Avenue for filming so we’ll have a front row seat. Come up and star watch with us, with Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson, and Casey Affleck floating around on the streets of Guthrie.

Since Oklahoma Avenue will be shut down for all traffic tomorrow, you will need to park in the back and come in the back door. If you’re not sure where this is, give us a ring and we’ll help direct you. You will also not be allowed to walk down Oklahoma Avenue unless you are dressed in 1950’s period clothing. So if you really want to see stars, you might put on your poodle skirt and take a stroll (just kidding).

snp.jpgDon’t forget that the Stitch ‘n Pitch baseball game is this Saturday night @ Bricktown Ballpark. We lucked out and it will be a double header! The game now starts at 5:05pm so you can come early, stay late, come late, leave early . . . whatever suits your schedule. If you ordered tickets, they are ready to pick up at SWAK in the City. We have extras so give us a call if you’d like to go to the game. Tickets are $12.

Emerson Girls need our help!
Thursday, May 21st, 2009

The past few days have been a bit of a bummer on the email front.

emerson2.jpgFirst I received this email from our contact at Emerson School. The state legislature has cut funding for teen moms and Emerson will be losing its on-site clinic unless action is taken quickly. The legislature adjourns its session at the end of this week so very little time is left. If you live in Oklahoma please read this email and contact your representative! There are other options for this funding, but time is of the essence. If you live in the Tulsa/Broken Arrow area, the Margaret Hudson Program is also affected.

This is a wonderful program that works. When you look at the bigger picture, it is more costly in the long run to close the on-site clinic than to provide the funding. Without the on-site clinic, the entire Emerson program will be at risk. These teen moms are a big inspiration to me. These girls not only choose to have their babies, they go a step further and choose to raise them too. They are staying in school and working to build a future for themselves and their children. Pulling funding is not only short-sighted but irresponsible. The girls need our help!

josharp.jpgThen I received an email from Jo Sharp. She has closed her US operations and in the future will be mail-order only from Australia. Not good news for Jo Sharp fans in the US. We do have a considerable stock of her yarns left in stock including her Classic DK Wool, DK Wool Heather, Silkroad Aran Tweed, Silkroad DK Tweed, Silkroad Aran, Silkroad Ultra, Rare Comfort Mohair, Infusion Kid Mohair, Alpaca Kid Lustre and Alpaca Silk Georgette.

This is very sad news for SWAK. I have known Jo for years. We were even her very first US stockist when she was distributed through a company who also sold boomerangs and other Australian goods. I am one of her biggest fans, of both her design work and yarns. I wish her well in her new venture, but am saddened that it the end of the road for us as far as her products go.

On a positive note, we are looking forward to a relaxing Memorial Weekend and hope you are too. I’ll be back soon with some fun new things to tell you about!

What a Weekend!
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

A good time was had by all during our Knit Out this past weekend. Our instructors were amazing, and we had a super group of attendees too.

retreat-joan.jpg
Joan Schrouder was incredible. Her students frantically took notes trying to soak in all of the knowledge she had to offer.
retreat-mags.jpgIt was great to see my friend Mags Kandis again. She was one of the instructors at our first Knit Out, way back when. He classes were a lot of fun and her creativity is contagious! retreat-wendy.jpgShe’s currently working on a new book. I have the inside scoop, but my lips are sealed!

It was my first time to meet Wendy, and let me say she is one of coolest people I have met in a long time. Her workshops were both fun and informative. We also premiered the Wendyknits Sunrise color created for Wendy by Lorna’s Laces. It is absolutely gorgeous! lornas.jpgsock.jpgRead about the new Sunrise color and Wendy’s trip to Oklahoma on her blog! We have a limited quantity left in stock, so don’t delay.

Tempted Yarns were also on hand with a huge trunk show. It flew out the door, but we do have some left. Watch for it appearing at SWAK in the City later this week.
fashino-emerson.jpgfashion-emma.jpgOur Fashion Show was a lot of fun, and this year the girls from Emerson School helped out. Even Emma & Mason were in the show this year. Isn’t little Emma a cutie?

The Stitch ‘n Pitch tickets are here. If you reserved tickets, they are ready to be picked up at SWAK in the City. We have some extra tickets to sell, so give us a ring if you can come. The baseball game is on Saturday, May 30 @ 7:05pm @ Bricktown Ballpark.

Memorial Weekend is almost here! Please note our holiday hours . . .
SWAK in the City
Friday/10-5 - Saturday/10-4 - Sunday & Monday/closed

SWAK Guthrie
Friday/10-5 - Saturday/10-5 - Sunday & Monday/closed

Hope everyone has a fun & safe Memorial Weekend!

Big Surprise
Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

We have a big surprise in store for you this weekend! In addition to the Tempted trunk show, we’ll have a huge trunk show from Lorna’s Laces too. Lorna’s is sending something new, something really cool, something very exciting . . . and that’s all I can say. You need to be here in person to find out what it is.

lorna.jpgWe will unveil the surprise during our Friday night dinner, but the trunk show and the surprise will be on hand for all to see (and take home with you) throughout the weekend.

Come on up to our Guthrie location during our Knit Out this weekend. It will be a sock-a-rama for all! Even if you can’t make it to the dinners or the workshops, there will be lots of cool things going on in the shop, including this really neat surprise. Can’t wait to see you!

Due to all of the excitement going on in Guthrie, our OKC store will be closing a bit early this Friday & Saturday @ 4pm. It will be open our regular hours on Sunday from 12-4.

and the winner is . . . EVERYONE!

If you can’t make it to the Knit Out, how about joining us on Friday, May 15 for a dinner with Wendy Johnson, Mags Kandis and Joan Schroeder? You can meet all three of these knitting superstars, play for fun prizes and nab a few autographs. Tempted Yarns will also be unveiling the second installment of their trunk show that evening.

retreat_banner.jpgWe are still taking sign-ups for the KNIT OUT. We have space in Mags Kandis and Joan Shroeder’s classes. Wendy’s classes on Saturday are full, but there still is a bit of room in her Sunday class. For more information on classes & pricing, download a brochure or give us a call. mason-rody.jpgIf you need a place to stay we still have a few spots at the B&B, however the Sleep Inn is sold out. Don’t delay, sign up today!

On a personal note, Mason is now sporting a blue cast on his left arm. The poor little guy fell off of the bed while reading his dinosaur book. He has a buckle fracture in his wrist, and will have to wear his cast for three more weeks. It hasn’t slowed him down a bit and he’s adapted to it just fine. I think it has been harder on us than him!
