Truth is I love Doris every moment of the year. Yes, I am a huge Doris Day fan. Back in the days when you could count the number of TV stations with both hands (and have a few fingers left) I fell in love watching her movies on the off-station movie specials.
Naturally you just have to love her classics like Pillow Talk and That Touch of Mink, but among some of my favorites are With Six You Get Eggroll and The Glass Bottom Boat. I also love the thrillers like Midnight Lace and Hitchcock’s The Man Who Knew Too Much.

I have to thank my Uncle Ben for turning me on to her music. Every gal needs an uncle who loves the theatre and collects show tunes, and mine graciously gave me his Doris Day CDs. He’s no longer with us and I miss him like crazy, but I still treasure those CDs.
One year they surprised me at the store with a Doris Day birthday party. That was a real treat! Check out the cake…

We had this awesome lady who made awesome cakes, but made the mistake of telling everyone we knew how great she was and well, she just got too busy. So if I get another awesome cake maker, I’m not giving out her name.
And while my husband doesn’t get it right all of the time, he does have a knack for coming up with some incredible gifts for me from time to time. This is probably my favorite gift he’s ever given me (short of the rock on my finger that I waited forever to get, but that’s another story)…

It is a boxed set of CDs that I adore from a collector in Germany. I now have a Doris Day tune for just about any occasion and then some. Happy, sad, in love, holiday, religious, children’s tunes, movie themes, and for car trips through Ohio (why-o-why Ohio). I threatened to play it for one of my teen companions on a trip through Ohio one time if they didn’t straighten up, and boy did it do the trick.
Included with the CDs is a book full of pictures. Here are my favorites, and it’s easy to see why.

OMG! She knits! How cool is that?
Mason has discovered my Doris tunes on the MINI’s iPod. As much as I love my Doris tunes, I do have to admit that listening to them every time we’re in the car is getting a bit old. It is especially driving Keith nuts.
I’ve tried to steer him towards Patsy Cline for a change of pace, but so far the song he likes best is Tra-La-La-La-La-La Triangle and that gets old quick. I also sing Doris to him before he goes to sleep. His favorite is Shanghai (one of my favorites too). He knows what number on the iPod it is and now simply requests that I sing #29. I think I’ll be ready to go on tour soon, appearing at a nursing home near you.
Now for a bit of Doris Day trivia. The internet has spoiled stumping you folks anymore, so I’ll just give you a hand on figuring this one out. What is the connection between Doris Day and Charles Manson? Here’s the answer. You too can now stump people at parties with this one.
Any other Doris fans out there? What are your favorite movies/songs? Hopefully I’ve converted a few new fans!
