I didn't know Johnny Mathis had included "My Favorite Things" in a holiday album! Even so, it's definitely a show tune.

My favorite holiday song is probably Johnny Mathis' recording of "I'll Be Home for Christmas." I go home in the summer for a long visit rather than traveling for Christmas, so this song will usually bring me to sentimental tears.

Show tune! My family actually knows the original family for a few generations now. It’s always fun to remember that when I watch!

Not a Christmas movie, but I'd likely choose it to watch between Christmas & New Year's.

Definitely a show tune! You have to look at the HISTORY! Just because Johnny Mathis grabbed it for a Christmas album doesn’t change the origin story for the song.
By the way, I especially love the braided velvet headbands. Also, I never thought of some of those uses for the cords. Now I need some!

I’m also a Sound of Music girl and would definitely classify “My Favorite Things “ as a show tune.

I love the Sound of Music, which typically airs on TV during Christmas time, so I make that connection! Favorite things.... family, love, light.... the celebration of the birth of our Savior!

My Favorite Things, I think of it as show tune. In our family the debate is over 'regular chips' are they tortilla chips or potato chips?

The song is a show tune, but one we hear a lot at Christmas time.

I suppose it can be interpreted as a Christmas song, as it's almost a Christmas list, but it only takes a superficial analysis of the lyrics to stop seeing it as a Christmas song. The only phrase in it that may point to Christmas is "brown paper packages tied up with string," but that can refer to birthday presents, or, back in the day, it meant someone had gone shopping or received something in the mail. Both activities can happen throughout the year. The actual gist of the song, supported by the midnight thunderstorm scene in Sound of Music, is an instruction on how to stay positive when your situation begs to drag you down, which is more of a general message used any time of year, and may only fit Christmastime if someone has had a sad association with Christmas.

It is a
Christmas song because we had the Johnny Mathis album and where I grew up we did not know much about Broadway. Love the mugs.

My Favorite Things is NOT a holiday song. It is used to fill a blank spot in holiday albums, but does not mention holidays anywhere in the lyrics nor feature during a holiday scene in The Sound of Music. I have OPINIONS about this.

Definitely a show tune! One of my favorite songs in the Sound of Music (and to sing with my mom), but now I’m going to have to listen to Johnny Mathis’ version. One of my favorite things you introduced a few years back around Christmas were the Humbug Candies…I just bought myself a package the other day.

I do not categorize it as a Christmas tune. I wrap my packages in brown paper year round. I always think of The Sound of Music when I hear that song.
